They are in your computers, stereo systems and even your mobile phone, but what are they? Printed circuit boards have taken the world by storm, providing us with endless convenience and entertainment, but which industries use them the most prevalently?
What is a printed circuit board?
A printed circuit board is often referred to as a PCB, and they are made from a thin insulation material. They have a metal-coated surface laden with etches made from acid. Although they provide many advantages, the main selling point is their compact nature. Resistors and capacitators can be easily welded into the holes drilled within them through the process of automation.
Medical
When working in the medical industry, PCBs play an abundantly important role in both diagnosing and treating patients with certain health conditions. Due to their structure, they are able to fit into even the smallest of mechanisms, such as implantable devices.

Not only do the boards provide one of the best sources of quality for the manufacturers, which is crucial during an emergency, but they are also really reliable.

Fuel also needs circuit boards. The necessary machinery requires a printed circuit board to keep it functioning properly. When looking for oil and gas in the drilling process, PCBs are used to control the positioning and angle of the drill head. Similarly, renewable energy is now becoming commonplace, and both converters and generators make full use of PCBs.
Aerospace
Aerospace devices are known for their dynamic designs and their ability to be as weightless as possible to conduct their jobs. Aeroplanes and satellite equipment need to use mechanics that weigh less than the average parts, so PCBs are a great fit.
Automotive and rail
The navigation, audio and visual systems in a car or industry-standard public transport vehicle are powered by PCB boards to make sure your ride is safe and comfortable. Rail travel relies on braking systems which are largely controlled by PCBs. They use a special kind of board which is much more durable than the average PCB.
